Answers before you report.
Plain-English guidance about eligibility, confidentiality and expectations.
Can you recover my funds?
We cannot promise recovery. The initiative examines evidence and documents findings. Recovery, if possible, may depend on exchanges, financial institutions or competent authorities and applicable procedures.
Is a submission free?
Yes. There are no submission fees. We never ask for wallet access, a recovery phrase, private key, OTP or recovery payment.
How recent must the incident be?
It depends on the campaign. The Nigeria Crypto Scam & Fraud Investigation — 2026 covers the preceding six calendar months, inclusive of today, assessed in Africa/Lagos time with shorter-month clamping. Other campaigns may have a different rolling window, a fixed earliest date or no age limit. Future incident dates are rejected.
Can I report for someone else?
Where a campaign permits representative reports, you must have appropriate authority. Public-interest submission campaigns may have different criteria. Do not expose another person’s private material without a lawful basis. The initial campaign covers Nigeria-connected cases; reporters may be located abroad, subject to country-specific restrictions.
Do I need to give my name?
No. Names and contact details are optional, and pseudonyms are accepted. Without a safe contact method, follow-up may be impossible. Technical metadata may still be processed; absolute anonymity is not promised.
Can I upload evidence now?
You can attach JPEG, PNG or PDF files, up to 10 MB each and 10 files per case, when private reporting is open. After an accepted report, your receipt also lets you add attachments for seven days. Files remain private and inaccessible to investigators until scanning passes. Preserve originals and never upload wallet secrets.
Will you publish my information?
Reports are not automatically published. Permission to approach you about a story is separate from permission to publish identifiable information. Editorial review and appropriate authorisation are required, subject to lawful obligations.
How do I check a report?
Use the case reference and separate private status code on the case-status page. It shows only a generic stage. Keep the code private; there is no unrestricted recovery process for a lost code.
Will someone respond within a set time?
No response time or investigation is guaranteed. Capacity, scope and available evidence affect whether a report proceeds. Use verified official channels where crime reporting or time-sensitive action is required.
We never request wallet access, private keys, recovery phrases or a recovery payment.
